BUCC ANNOUNCEMENTS
Sunday January 29, 2012

WE WELCOME INTO MEMBERSHIP TODAY Dan, Kathleen, Ian and Ryan Stewart; George and Carole Snider; Rose Del Valle; and David Pastor. May God bless our new members and our entire BUCC Family, as we grow together in faith, hope and love!

TODAY, we are having a Chili pot luck to take the winter's chill from our new members. Everyone is welcome. There is enough for everyone.

WE ARE SERVING A HUNGER MEAL at Pearl Road United Methodist Church this afternoon at 4 pm. We expect to serve 175-200 meals. Please come and help!

THE FEBRUARY PILLAR has been completed. If you asked for Pillar delivery by e-mail, you should have received your copy last week. If you asked for a hard copy by mail, please pick up your pre-addressed copy in the upper commons this morning. Those not picked up will need to be stamped and mailed. If you do not find your copy or have any problems or changes, please let us know.

ON SUNDAY MARCH 4 AT 4:00 PM, BUCC will host a free concert titled, “Opera à la carte: Favorite arias from the world's most loved operas!” The program will feature senior vocal performance majors from Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music singing arias and duets from operas including Don Giovanni, B-W's spring 2012 production. Please plan on joining us for what promises to be a superbly sung selection of operatic classics. A free-will offering will be received, and a light reception will follow the concert.

OUR NEW 2012 FLOWER CHART has many empty spaces for you to choose a date to honor or to remember a loved one. Please enter your name in the space on the chart, fill out a sheet from the pocket and drop it off in the church office.

MITTEN TREE is in the Narthex waiting for donations of mittens, hats, scarves, socks, etc. Even though the days are still warm the cold weather is coming. It isn't too early to think about providing mittens and hats for those who are needy.

THE PEACE CANDLE is placed on the communion table every Sunday to remind us of Jesus' teachings on peace and peacemakers. We pray that peace between nations, within our country, community, families, and ourselves will become a priority for all.

FEBRUARY FOOD PANTRY items are school supplies. Please leave your donations in the basket outside of the office door.  Let's not forget to also bring in all kinds of non-perishable food items to be distributed at the emergency food centers at Brookside Community Center and Community Corners.  The economic downturn has particularly affected the inner city dwellers.  Monetary contributions are always welcome. Please mark your envelope “Food Pantry.”

ARE YOU LOOKING for a way to offer your gifts and be involved at BUCC? Serving as a volunteer in the church office is a great way to do that. Some computer skills are an asset to be a backup for preparation of the bulletins. There are a variety of other office duties--answering the phone, using the copy machine, checking the email. All of us in the office are volunteers and we try to be flexible with our schedules. We're also looking for people willing to be called to substitute when one of the "regulars" is unavailable. If you can see yourself in this role, please contact the church office. It's a great way to stay "in the know."

THE BUCC WEB PAGE provides up-to-date information on our activities and programs. It also includes a recent "Order of Worship" and items from the Pillar. Please check it out regularly at www.BrecksvilleUCC.org. We appreciate the efforts of Diane Gressley and Beth Rehling in keeping it up to date. If you would also like to help, please check the church office.

PASTOR DAVE can be contacted at the church office, 440-526-4364 or at home, 440-546-1193. He also be contacted by e-mail at: buccpastor@sbcglobal.net. Please do not hesitate to contact him if the need arises.

DID YOU KNOW that the sound system we use in our church sanctuary uses inputs from as many as two wireless lapel mikes, three wireless handheld mikes and four hard wired mikes. Our Sunday sound person controls the volume on each input and feeds the sound selectively to the two main sanctuary speakers and two balcony speakers and/or the special outputs of two ceiling narthex speakers, our Williams wireless units for the hard of hearing and a audio recorder for making tapes for use by shut-ins at home. Each input can do and does multiple jobs during the worship service. For example, the wireless handheld which is always in position either under or on the communion table is used (1) to pick up the prelude, offertories, postludes, congregation singing, responsive readings, etc. for feed just to the special outputs and (2) announcements and children’s responses for all speakers.  The other mikes each have their own jobs. Please note - during the service, after you use this mike, do not turn it off but return it to its place, facing the congregation, so that it is ready for its next planned use. Although the operation of the mixer-amplifier system sounds complicated, its design makes it relatively easy to use. We welcome additional volunteers to join the rotation of our Sunday Sound people. Please see Max for a tour and the chance to determine if this is a job you can help with.

IF YOU DO NOT RECYCLE your own HP and Lexmark ink-jet and toner cartridges, please pass them on to the office. In 2011, our recycling of your empty cartridges plus taking advantage of other special deals at OfficeMax was a significant part in our spending $500 less for office supplies than we had expected.

THE PEACE CANDLE is placed on the communion table every Sunday to remind us of Jesus’ teachings on peace and peacemakers. We pray that peace between nations, within our country, community, families, and ourselves will become a priority for all.
